The countdown to a 24 movie is on: The screenwriter of State of Play and Shattered Glass has signed on to do the script, Variety reports.
24: Jack Bauer will survive to the end of the series
Billy Ray's story will bring Jack Bauer to London. The show's executive producers, including star Kiefer Sutherland, would also produce the movie if it's made.
One thing standing in the way of 24: The Movie is 24 the series. Fox has not yet renewed the drama for a ninth season, which would conflict with the film's shooting schedule. The network is waiting for more ratings information before making a decision on 24's fate, according to Variety.
Kiefer Sutherland gets tangled in alleged cattle-selling scheme
Producers have long planned to bring Bauer & Co. to the big screen and originally intended to shoot a film between the sixth and seventh seasons. Plans were later deferred to allow producers to focus on the series. A TV movie, 24: Redemption, aired in 2008.
