- Johnny Ace wants WWE involvement in Misawa Memorial Show
There will be a Mitsuharu Misawa Memorial Show taking place at the Differ Ariake Arena in Tokyo on Saturday, July 4.
The location is symbolic as it was the first place that ran a Pro Wrestling NOAH show and is next to the promotion’s headquarters. NOAH is getting help from both All Japan and New Japan promotions.
Apparently, John Laurinaitis wants WWE to take part as well, even if WWE barely had any type of history with Misawa. The only known history was a WWF/All Japan super show that they did in 1990 with Bret Hart facing Misawa in a singles match, the latter wrestling as Tiger Mask II at the time. Laurinaitis, on the other hand, was working for All Japan during the decade period when Misawa was the top guy. He even wrestled against him, though mostly in tag matches.
According to Wrestling ObserverFigure Four Online, the former Johnny Ace is using whatever push and pull he can to send a couple guys to participate on the show. It is being said that two guys he has in mind to send are World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk and Evan Bourne. WWE does have a couple Japan shows scheduled for the SmackDown and ECW brands on July 7 and 8. However, the two brands are in San Diego, California on July 3 and Honolulu, Hawaii on July 5. Punk would be a long shot to take part in the Misawa Memorial Show. Even if he would want to go, which is probable since he was the only one to honor Misawa on last Monday’s Raw show, he is the World Heavyweight Champion and is being advertised for both the San Diego and Honolulu shows. Bourne is not advertised on either of the shows, so they would be more accepting of sending him. Still, there is no official word if WWE will even give Johnny Ace the okay.
