I'm a big fan of Star Wars.

The Star Wars Universe Gets Pillaged Again

When it comes to sacred ground in pop culture, there isn't much left that hasn't been paved over by Hollywood to erect a hideous strip mall of re-imaginings, adaptations, and abominations.

The Star Wars universe certainly hasn't been immune to exploitation (just take a look at the Star Wars Christmas Special—video below), and there are no signs of it stopping anytime soon. Lucasfilm has teamed up with the brains behind Robot Chicken, the claymation pop-culture hurricane on Adult Swim, for a new animated Star Wars series... with a twist.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new series will feature characters in the galaxy far, far away during their downtime; say, when they're not trying to destroy the Death Star or slaughter Ewoks.

"The Star Wars universe is so dense and rich; it's crazy to think that there aren't normal, mundane everyday problems in a world so well-defined," said Seth Green, who found success with Star Wars spoofs on Robot Chicken. "What do these characters do when they're not overthrowing empires?"

I'm not nearly as nutty for Star Wars as some people I know, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone in a Boba Fett outfit wants to put George Lucas' head on the chopping block. Sure, this can be funny, but how far is too far? Do we really need to see Han Solo yell at Chewbacca for not doing the dishes? Does that kind of insider look ruin the magic of a universe so many people grew up on? Or are we beating a dead Tauntaun because Star Wars has already been raped beyond recognition?

Chewbacca Returns to 'Star Wars' and Answers Fan Questions
by: Dave Rogers

He's hairy, hot-headed and handy with a bowcaster. Kids love him because he's like a big teddy bear. Grown-ups value his loyalty and battle savvy. There's no one like Chewbacca, the beloved Wookiee of Star Wars™ fame.

Thousands of kids recently submitted questions to the "walking carpet" in anticipation of his debut in the one-hour season finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars™. Chewie took some time from his duties to answer some of the most popular questions in this Yahoo! premiere video:

In the season three finale, the young Jedi Ahsoka Tano is taken captive and stranded on a planetary game preserve, where she finds herself on the run from merciless Trandoshan hunting parties. With the odds stacked against her, hope for rescue dwindles -- until her escape efforts receive an unexpected boost from a friendly (and furry) fellow captive.

"These finale episodes are among the best we've produced" says Dave Filoni, supervising director of The Clone Wars. One reason: Peter Mayhew, who has played the iconic role of Chewbacca since the original Star Wars in 1977, played an essential role recreating Chewie for the series.

Mayhew advised the animators on the movement, posture and mannerisms of the character he played in the first trilogy and Revenge of the Sith. Filoni said, "We couldn't have done it without him; it just wouldn't have been Chewie."

The season finale of The Clone Wars airs April 1 at 8:00 p.m. on Cartoon Network. Watch Chewbacca in a scene from the episode below.
