Kiefer Sutherland Returning To TV on Tim Kring’s ‘Touch’?
Feb 18, 2011 by Michael Crider

Kiefer Sutherland, the leading man of ’24,’ is in negotiations to join ‘Heroes’ creator Tim Kring’s newest project. Sutherland would play the father in ‘Touch,’ a science fiction pilot currently in pre-production at Fox.

For many fans of Fox’s homeland security thriller 24, eight seasons of Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer wasn’t enough. And those fans will be be happy to hear that he’s coming back to TV in Touch, the latest science fiction pilot from Heroes creator Tim Kring.

Sutherland is negotiating with Touch producers for the lead role in the series, which follows a father (the role he’s being offered) whose disabled son develops the ability to see the future. The gift is complicated by the boy’s various afflictions, including autism and an inability to speak. Touch is Tim Kring’s first spec script, and first major project of any kind, since Heroes.

Sutherland hasn’t been resting on his laurels since the end of 24‘s run. In addition to some ill-advised voice acting work on the universally panned Marmaduke, he’s starring in the upcoming web-only one-off The Confession and a science fiction movie called Melancholia (filming is finished on both). The project most likely to interfere with his possible return to television is the latest Broadway incarnation of The Championship Season, due in March. However, considering that he’d only need to be present for the pilot filming of Touch, it’s not unreasonable to assume he’d do both.

Touch would be a major change for Sutherland, whose roles have been largely action-oriented for the last few years. While not much information is available on the new project, it’s clear that a role as the father of a simultaneously gifted and disabled son would necessitate an impressive emotional range. That isn’t to say that Sutherland isn’t up to the task, but it will be a shift out of his comfort zone and a change for fans who are used to seeing him chase terrorists every week.

Touch represents a new chance for Tim Kring and much of the Heroes production team to start fresh. After the hit first season of the superhero seris on NBC, the following three seasons consistently declined in quality and viewership until the show’s inauspicious cancellation in 2010. To be fair, rumor indicated that NBC took the vast majority of creative control away from the writers, so Heroes‘ decline can’t be blamed entirely on the creators. It’ll be interesting to see if Fox allows Kring & Co. more control.

Touch has yet to be picked up for an initial season by Fox. If it is, a fall 2011 or spring 2012 debut is likely.

Kiefer Sutherland Could Return to TV on Tim Kring’s ‘Touch’
Posted on Friday, February 18th, 2011 by Germain Lussier

Since his hit television show 24 ended, Kiefer Sutherland has been on an entertainment walkabout. He’s experienced the end of the world with controversial director Lars Von Trier in Melancholia, debated the morality of murder with a priest for an upcoming web series called The Confession and is currently starring on Broadway in the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, That Championship Season.

However, the lucrative, structured life of a TV star might soon be calling Sutherland back. He’s in preliminary talks to star in Touch, a Fox pilot from Heroes creator Tim Kring about a man whose mute, autistic son can see the future. There’s more information after the break.

Deadline broke the news of the talks which could be complicated by Sutherland’s commitment to That Championship Season, currently scheduled to run on Broadway through the end of May. Unless Sutherland works around the show (in which he co-stars with Jason Patric, Brian Cox, Jim Gaffigan and Chris Noth) production on Touch would have to be bumped back.

Being as it’s pilot season, and Touch is a pilot, there’s a chance that the timing won’t work out for Kring. Maybe Fox and Sutherland, who had such a great relationship in the past, can work something out, but either way it’s probably not going to stop Kring from getting the pilot made or Sutherland from finding other jobs. The only questions are, is Touch as attractive to the Fox without Sutherland in the lead role and if Sutherland jumps back on to TV, does it diminish this little multimedia foray that he’s been on?

Either way, the premise of the show seems kind of cliche and though I was a fan on Kring’s early work on Heroes, this show, combining elements of Flash Forward, Medium and The Miracle Worker, doesn’t exactly sound too exciting. Sutherland’s involvement, though, will certainly make it seem cooler. Do you agree?

The project revolves around a father who discovers that his mute, autistic son can predict events before they happen. Sutherland is in early negotiations to play the father, pending his availability. The actor is currently starring in the Broadway revival That Championship Season, which began previews last week.

Sutherland also stars in a new web series, The Confession, which follows a hitman (Sutherland) who discusses why his victims deserved to die with a priest (John Hurt). The 10 five-to-seven-minute webisodes, which was shot last month, hits Hulu in March.

Developed as a spec script, Touch is Kring's first pilot since Heroes ended in 2006. He will serve as executive producer alongside Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope.

Official: Kiefer Sutherland Returning to Primetime
12:07 PM 2/22/2011 by Marisa Guthrie

The former "24" star closes a deal to star in and executive produce the Fox drama pilot "Touch," from "Heroes" creator Tim Kring.

Kiefer Sutherland, who starred for eight seasons on Fox's 24, is officially reuniting with the network.
He has closed a deal to star in and executive produce the Fox drama pilot Touch, from Heroes creator Tim Kring.

Co-produced by Chernin Entertainment, Touch centers on a father (Sutherland) who discovers that his autistic, mute son can predict events before they happen.

Because of Sutherland's duties on Broadway where he currently stars in a revival of the Jason Miller's That Championship Season, Touch is expected start production in late May-early June after Sutherland fulfills his commitment to the play, now in previews, THR previously reported. That would make Touch a contender for midseason where 24 was a long-time staple. Kring wrote Touch, his first pilot script since Heroes. Charles McDougall, who has helmed the pilots for ABC's Desperate Housewives, CBS' The Good Wife and, most recently, Fox's The Chicago Code, is in talks to direct.

Sutherland is repped by CAA and Management 360.

TOUCH (FOX) - Kiefer Sutherland has officially boarded the drama pilot, which will now film in late May or early June for midseason consideration by the network. He'll play Martin Bohm in the project - an unassuming baggage handler at JFK who discovers that his autistic, mute son can predict events before they happen - as well as executive produce. The delayed production start is due to Sutherland's commitment to Jason Miller's revival of "That Championship Season" on Broadway, which opened last week. Charles McDougall is in talks to direct the 20th Century Fox Television-based hour, which comes from creator Tim Kring.

New Plot Details Emerge for Tim Kring’s ‘Touch’
Mar 2, 2011 by Michael Crider

After a long silence, some meaty story information on Tim Kring’s Fox pilot ‘Touch’ is now available. Check out the first details regarding Sutherland’s role and several characters waiting to be cast.

Touch, the latest pilot from Heroes creator Tim Kring, is finally offering up more substantial plot and character information. Details have emerged on Kiefer Sutherland’s role as well as the rest of the characters – who have not yet been cast.

Please note: the following information contains spoilers for the pilot episode of Touch, and probably one or two episodes into the first season as well.

Kiefer Sutherland plays Martin Bohm, a former journalist working as an airport baggage handler (subtle, huh?) to support himself and his son Jacob – after his estranged wife died in the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center.

Jacob is the main source of drama in the series. He can’t, or perhaps won’t, talk and has an obsession with numbers and patterns – particularly 3:18. He resets all the clocks in the house to 3:18 and is caught climbing a local cell tower at the same time. Jacob even begins writing down winning lottery numbers, before they’re announced – making Martin suspect something strange is afoot.

Child Protective Services attempts to separate Jacob and Martin on the grounds that the boy is autistic. He gains at least one sympathetic ear in Clea Hopkins, a social worker who sympathizes with Martin – while remaining skeptical.

Martin seeks the help of a mad genius-type named Boris Podoltsky, who explains that the boy is a “conduit for energy”, and is able to see the exchanges of electrical and biological energy that make up human existence. Essentially, Jacob is able to analyze the basic mathematical functions of events and reactions, and accurately predict future outcomes almost instantly (no word on whether he can “see the code” or not).

The basic gist is that Jacob isn’t a superhero or a mutant, he’s an incredible genius. He doesn’t “see the future” as much as he works out the inevitable sequence of events before they happen, albeit with a degree of insight that doesn’t exist in the real world. His abilities can appear psychic as well – he correctly predicts the sequence of numbers that another character is about to dial on a telephone.

kiefer sutherland is in negotiations for the lead role on Fox's Touch

have to say, I’m not really impressed. the initial pitch for Touch sounded like it was going to be a straight superpowers/science fiction affair with a more dramatic, relationship-focused, story. The core idea seems to be there, but why invent a pseudo-scientific mcguffin to explain the boy’s powers? It’s not like “almost-psychic super analytical genius” is any more likely than a pint-sized Charles Xavier.

It will be especially interesting to see how Sutherland handles the role. More of a family man than 24‘s Jack Bauer, Martin is an ordinary guy who can’t catch a break, thrust into an unreal situation – while having to deal with the very real danger of losing his son.

Of course, the show still hinges on the casting. The role of the boy in particular will be difficult to fill, calling for subtlety and nuance that’s rare in child actors (and not all that common among adults, either).

In any case, you’ll be able to judge for yourself before too long. There’s no season order for Touch yet, but with Kring and Sutherland attached to the project, odds are that Fox will pull the trigger sometime this summer.

1 Jul 2011 Kiefer Sutherland on the set of “Touch”

Kiefer Sutherland is spotted on the set of his new show Touch in Los Angeles on Tuesday (June 28). Kiefer tweeted the pic and wrote: “On set today with prop man Sterling Rush..yup, I’m a baggage handler.”

There’s also a great pic in the gallery of Kiefer filming at Union Station in Los Angeles – check it out.

Kiefer plays a father in the pilot whose autistic son (David Mazouz) can predict events before they happen. Danny Glover also stars as Arthur DeWitt, a professor and expert on children who possess special gifts. Wow, sounds like a great cast!

Kiefer Sutherland's Touch Has 'Extraordinary' Buzz, But Still Awaits Time Slot from Fox

Touch, a drama pilot fronted by 24 alum Kiefer Sutherland and penciled in for a midseason berth on Fox, is eliciting strong praise… even as it awaits an official pick-up to series.

“I can’t confirm [the series order] yet, but we’re staffed on Touch and they’re writing scripts now,” Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly told reporters on Friday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “Look, to be honest with you, if the pilot was lousy, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation. But I think the pilot is potentially great.”

Touch revolves around a father (Sutherland) who discovers that his son (played by David Mazouz) can predict events before they happen. Danny Glover costars as Arthur DeWitt, a professor and expert on children who possess special gifts. Heroes creator Tim Kring penned the script and will serve as an exec producer.

“[It] could be an extraordinary show,” Reilly said, noting that between Touch, Alcatraz and The Finder, “I really like what were sitting on [for midseason].”

Fox Picks Up Kiefer Sutherland’s 'Touch' For Midseason
By Blair Marnell September 23, 2011

The former star of "24" will return to the network next year.

Back in 2010, "24" came to an end and Kiefer Sutherland’s iconic character Jack Bauer went on the run one last time. But in 2012, Sutherland will make his return to network TV.

Fox has officially announced that it has picked up "Touch" for 13 episodes set to debut at midseason. Sutherland stars as Martin Bohm, a widower who discovers that his mute and autistic 11 year old son, Jake (David Mazouz) can communicate in numbers which seem to predict future events. Danny Glover co-stars along with Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

“Every once in a while, you encounter a piece of material that you just cannot say no to,” said Sutherland in a statement. “That, combined with the opportunity to work again with Peter Chernin and the Fox studio and network, makes me thrilled to be a part of this project. I also look forward to working with an extraordinary writer and producer like Tim Kring.”

In addition to his eight seasons on "24," Sutherland has also appeared in numerous feature films, including "The Lost Boys," "Bright Lights, Big City," "Young Guns," "A Few Good Men," "The Vanishing" and "Phone Booth." The late pickup of "Touch" was due in part to Sutherland's recent stint on the Broadway show, "That Championship Season."

"Touch" was created Tim Kring and marks a comeback for him as well. Prior to "Touch," also created "Strange World," "Crossing Jordan" and "Heroes" before writing the internet based ARG "Conspiracy For Good."

Fox President of Entertainment, Kevin Reilly added “'Touch' is another ambitious series from Tim Kring that is beautifully executed and has incredibly resonant themes for our times. With Kiefer back on the network as the face and force behind this creative new series, I’m confident it will resonate with viewers this spring.”

Although no air date has yet been announced, "Touch" is rumored to be launching in March 2012 on Monday nights at 9PM; which is where "24" used to run.

Kiefer Sutherland talks about Touch and the 24 movie
Posted by Bunky Bunk at Wednesday, October 05, 2011

As reported by THR, speaking at Cannes' MIPCOM at the international launch of his new FOX sci-fi series Touch, Kiefer Sutherland revealed that screenwriter Billy Ray (State of Play) has all but completed the 24 script. The process of condensing the storyline into a movie format was more complex than anyone originally thought : "We have worked very long and hard over the past 2 years on a screenplay but it was actually much harder to take this idea that was told in 24 hours and condense it into a 2-hour movie".

But Kiefer was in Cannes with Tim Kring and Kevin Reilly (Fox Entertainment president) mostly to talk about his return to television in Touch, the midseason FOX drama about a father whose autistic son seems to be able to predict the future.

Drawing on the ideas of quantum entanglement and the interconnectivity of matter and consciousness at the quantum and human levels, Kring's follow-up to Heroes is not shy of addressing enormous themes. Viewers will get a window on such mathematical concepts as the golden ratio, the Fibonacci sequences and the recurrent patterns of the Mandelbrot numbers found so frequently in nature, all wrapped around a father/son tale of alienation and reconnection.

Kiefer said he had been "blown away" by the concept after being urged to look at the script by Peter Chernin and Reilly : “After 24, I didn't expect to be back to television quite as quickly as I have. It was an incredible experience and I really wanted some time to digest it and there was more to digest than I thought. There were films I wanted to do. But once I read the story, I couldn't let it go. I got to about page 25 and I remember I put it down and just said 'Shit, there’s no way around it, I have to do it'".

The story of a father who can’t touch or reach his autistic son but desperately wants to find a way to communicate with him gave him range to play a whole set of emotions that he had never expressed in his near-decade long performance as Jack Bauer : “When I talked to Tim Kring about what he wanted to accomplish, he said he wanted it to be all about the emotion. As an actor it was such an open door for me".

Just as in Heroes, Kring is on a mission to push boundaries in Touch, both in its intellectual, scientific and spiritual themes, and also in the way that the story is told in 4 countries : actors in Ireland, Iraq and Japan tell different aspects of the story, keeping foreign-language dialog where relevant among the actors.

Creator Tim Kring said : “I have had one theme in my writing for the last decade, that we live in a truly interconnected universe that I just keep going back to. I wanted to elevate that this time. This is an entertainment show, but I also feel that I am at a certain point in my career when I want to make sure I am using whatever I have to put a message out that I believe in".

Kiefer is also passionate about the theme of not underselling to audiences and challenging them : "There is something that really does bind us together and I think it is an unbelievably positive message, and the fact that you can use something that is a really interesting theoretical science to send that message out is really powerful".

And Kiefer isn't worried that the message will go over viewers' heads : “In America, we have this terrible habit of underestimating the audience. If you actually give an audience the best you've got and you don't underestimate them, the return is unbelievable".

FOX has ordered 13 episodes of Touch. Written by Tim Kring, the pilot was directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) in July and the show will premiere in February/March 2012. This sci-fi drama will star Kiefer Sutherland (24) as Martin Bohm, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Undercovers) as Clea Hopkins and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon) as Arthur DeWitt.

'Touch' gets to Kiefer Sutherland
The script for 'Touch' brought '24' star Kiefer Sutherland back to TV. The Fox show gets a sneak preview Jan. 25 after 'American Idol.'

By T. L. Stanley, Special to the Los Angeles Times

January 8, 2012
Kiefer Sutherland runs through a packed Grand Central Station, dodging bystanders and scanning the crowd for suspicious activity. The minutes fly by — seen in frequent close-ups of ticking clocks — drawing closer to a potentially explosive moment. Sutherland confronts a guy on a public phone, spins him around and starts punching.

Wait, is Jack Bauer back on TV?

He's not, but Sutherland is returning to the Fox network. Only his new drama, "Touch," owes more to feature films like "Crash" and "Short Cuts" than to his previous award-winning espionage series, "24." He just happens, in the first episode of "Touch," to be racing against time to unravel a mystery, an unintentional bone for "24" fans since it was written before Sutherland signed on.

The new drama, which will have a sneak preview Jan. 25 after "American Idol," centers on Sutherland's character, Martin Bohm, a former journalist and single dad to a special-needs 11-year-old boy.

The son, Jake, who's remote, combative and uncommunicative, may be autistic, but he exhibits savant-like qualities with gadgets and numbers. He can't bear to be touched, hence the series' title.

As it turns out, as revealed by an eccentric professor, played by series costar Danny Glover, Jake can detect patterns and relationships between seemingly disparate people and events. He might even be able to see the future.

It's up to Sutherland's Bohm to "follow the bread crumbs" and figure out the significance of the boy's mathematical clues, according to "Touch" creator and executive producer Tim Kring.

Kring, who also created NBC's former hit "Heroes," said he'd been thinking since shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks about writing a series that would blend some mystical and scientific elements. (There are several references to 9/11 in the pilot, including the reason Sutherland's character is a widower: His stockbroker wife died in the World Trade Center blast.)

At the core of "Touch" is a father and son tale, and layered on top are ideas of interconnectivity and serendipity, near misses and close calls, those moments of wondering, "If it hadn't been for this, what would've happened to that?"

"I've been dealing with this theme for a long time, in 'Heroes' and before that, 'Crossing Jordan,' of people's lives being connected in seemingly random ways that turn out not to be random at all," Kring said. "I wanted to elevate that theme to the forefront because I think people will automatically be able to relate to it."

The 13-episode series, formally premiering March 19 after "House," will tell stand-alone stories each week but weave an ongoing mythology for fans who want a deeper dive. One of the main story lines is Bohm's struggle to prove he's a competent father since Jake's outbursts and out-of-control behavior caused the state's child welfare agency to take him out of the home for evaluation.

Though it's grounded in real-world New York City, there will be borderline supernatural issues to ponder, Kring said, such as the possible existence of others just like Jake. And there will be some heart-pounding action for "24" junkies, but it'll be mixed with lower-adrenaline emotional stakes.

Bohm will be "a very real, very human character," who's devoted to his kid and stretched too thin, like many parents. Bohm, along with the actor who plays him, "has his own kind of heroism and strength," Kring said.

To Sutherland, who had been working in live theater, going back to a full-time TV series wasn't his priority. He didn't miss the demands of a weekly show, especially one like "24" where he appeared in nearly every scene, he said, but he was bowled over by the "Touch" script.

"I knew I had to do it because it hit me on a spiritual level," Sutherland said recently. "As it turns out, the workload is almost the same as '24.' 'Touch' isn't as physical but the emotional demands are much greater."

Though the show's based in Los Angeles and the production never leaves town, the show globe trots to carry the theme of diverse and interlocking connections. A misplaced cellphone in one country, for instance, skips around the world, eventually containing data and video evidence of where it's been and the people who've used it.

"That idea of connectivity, of breaking down the barriers of language, culture, religion, and showing that we all want the same things — it's imperative right now," Sutherland said. "It's something we may've lost track of, but the show reminds us."

Kiefer Sutherland to show paternal emotions in "Touch"

LOS ANGELES | Sun Jan 8, 2012 7:56pm EST

(Reuters) - Kiefer Sutherland is ready to let audiences get in touch with his emotional side.

Sutherland told reporters on Sunday at the Television Critics Association panels for Fox, held in Los Angeles, that he was ready to transition from repressed action man Jack Bauer in "24" to an emotional father of an autistic son in the new Fox drama "Touch."

"Touch" tells the story of an evolving relationship of a father and his voiceless child who communicates through numbers, drawing connections between seemingly disconnected people and events across the world.

Sutherland said stepping away from the character of Bauer into Martin Brohm, a former journalist and luggage handler whose wife was killed in the September 11 attacks, was refreshing.

"The opportunity that I had in '24' to repress the character, informed the character beautifully for me. To be able to have the antithesis to that in this show, where he can openly show and have an emotional reaction to what is happening at this moment, is another fantastic opportunity," said Sutherland.

"The real choice to do this was not to get away from '24,' the reason I could not turn this down was that it spoke to me on a really profound level."

Creator Tim Kring, who was behind the sci-fi series "Heroes" about ordinary people with superhuman capabilities, said he long been interested "in this theme of interconnectivity."

"This is really a chance to continue what you would call social-benefit storytelling, the idea of using archetypal narrative to create and promote a positive energy in the world," said Kring.

The series will operate as stand-alone episodes with characters that interconnect throughout, tied together by the relationship between father and his autistic son as the son leaves a trail of clues through numbers to guide his father on a path of discovery.

The character of the son, Jake, played by David Mazouz, is initially identified as autistic, but Kring was eager to emphasize that the show was not exploring autism specifically.

"The show does not attempt to talk about autism, it's not a show about autism," said Kring, adding "as storytellers, we want to reserve the right to say there is some other idea floating above it, something spiritual or supernatural."

For "24" fans, Jack Bauer will be making a return as Sutherland confirmed he was shooting the "24" movie in late April this year.

Sutherland and Mazouz will be joined by co-stars Danny Glover and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in "Touch," premiering mid-season on Fox.

Fox Readies for Spring
By Rachel Thomas, About.com Guide February 13, 2012

Bones... House... Glee... Kiefer Sutherland -- all of our old friends are returning to Fox this spring.

The days of a "traditional" television season are long gone and have been replaced with crazy, year-long scheduling that can be confusing at best. While I love that the networks are doing their best to avoid reruns by giving us shorter seasons of new dramas such as Terra Nova and Alcatraz, but in the end, it makes it harder to find our old favorites when they are split up into two or even three sections in one season.

After a successful preview a few weeks ago, Kiefer Sutherland returns to primetime with the fascinating new drama, Touch on March 19. Following the successful (and way too brief) run of Alcatraz, House returns for their final batch of episodes on April 2, followed by Bones on April 5. Glee returns with an episode featuring White Collar star Matt Bomer on April 10.

Bubble TV Watch: Which Shows Are—and Aren't—Making Their Case for Renewal?
Tue., May. 8, 2012 1:00 PM PDT by Joal Ryan

Does Touch still have the touch? Is Missing finding an audience? Does Hart of Dixie even have an audience?

With the broadcast network upfront announcements scheduled for next week, here's an updated look at how some of TV's bubblier bubble shows have fared in the TV ratings over the last month:

MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

• GCB: A miracle? Three weeks ago, it had fallen to 4.4 million viewers; on Sunday night, it was up to 5.6 million.

• Hart of Dixie: Rachel Bilson faithful, take heart. Prior to last night, her show had been inching upward, from 1.2 million viewers to 1.4 million last week. In CW-land, that's substantial growth. (Last night, it slipped to 1.3 million, per the early ratings.)

• The Secret Circle: After holding steady for a couple of weeks, it moved up the CW charts, and edged past Nikita with 1.23 million viewers.

MOVING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION

• Missing: This Ashley Judd series has been on a one-way ride to down, from 7.9 million a few weeks ago to 6.7 million for its latest episode.

• Touch: Not too long ago, this Kiefer Sutherland vehicle looked like a sure thing. But April was a rough month. Even with an American Idol lead-in, its audience was about as big, or not, as Missing's. Still, Touch has a lot more pull among young adults than most bubble shows, the Judd series included.

• Nikita: The opposite of Hart of Dixie, over its last three new episodes, the CW vet went from 1.4 million viewers to 1.2 million.
Elsewhere, here's a look at some more ratings winners—and losers:

• The Voice (10.5 million estimated viewers): Last night's final performance show was good for a boost, albeit not enough to put a scare into Idol.

• Two and a Half Men (11.3 million estimated viewers): Even opposite The Voice and Dancing With the Stars (16 million estimated viewers), the comedy managed to tie The Voice for Monday bragging rights in the 18-to-49 demo.

• The Amazing Race (9.4 million viewers): Went out bigger than it did last spring.

• The Biggest Loser (7.1 million viewers): On one hand, this bubble show hit a season high with its season closer. On the other hand, it shed a ton of younger viewers versus its spring 2011 finale.

THEY ARE WHAT THEY ARE

• Community: This show has never been about the ratings, so let's not start citing them now.

• Cougar Town: Its most recent line—4.8 million viewers, 1.3 rating in the 18-to-49-year-old demographic—is about where the Courteney Cox comedy has been of late.

• CSI: NY: Last week, it was at 9.1 million viewers. The week before that, it was at 9.1 million viewers.

• Gossip Girl: Does the fact that it's fallen below 1 million viewers three times in its last five outings mean anything? Does the fact that it fell below 900,000 viewers last night mean anything? Only the CW knows for sure where this show's bar for success is set.

Here's a complete look at the top 10 most-watched broadcast shows, per the latest Nielsen rankings:

NCIS, 17.6 million viewers
American Idol (Wednesday), 16.7 million viewers
Dancing With the Stars (Monday), 16.2 million viewers
American Idol (Thursday), 15.6 million viewers
NCIS: Los Angeles, 15.2 million viewers
The Big Bang Theory, 13.9 million viewers
Dancing With the Stars (Tuesday), 13.89 million viewers
Person of Interest, 13.3 million viewers
The Mentalist, 12.9 million viewers
60 Minutes, 11.7 million viewers
