24 Movie?
October 6th, 2010 | Add a Comment
A feature film adaptation of 24 is in the works for all lovers of the series who watched the finale of their favorite show earlier this year.
It was decided that the film would begin production after the conclusion of the eighth and final season. The film will take place and be shot on-location in Europe. Joel Surnow, Robert Cochran, Howard Gordon, and Kiefer Sutherland will serve as executive producers on the film, while the screenplay will be written by Billy Ray.
In April 2010, Kiefer Sutherland said in an interview at a BAFTA event in London, that the script was finished and he would be reading it upon his return to the United States. Sutherland also said that the film will be a two-hour representation of a twenty-four-hour time frame.
So be on the lookout…..

Tony Scott Has An Idea For 24: THE MOVIE?
There’s no candidate more fitting to direct a film version of Fox’s 24 t.v. series than action maestro Tony Scott. Year in, year out he routinely makes frenetic, high-energy, mindlessly entertaining action vehicles that suits the thematics of the 24 show like a tailored glove.
Hell, the condensed time narrative of The Taking of Pelham 123 remake could have easily satisfied an episode or two of the show.
In fact you could probably argue that if it wasn’t for the signature Scott style from films like Top Gun, True Romance and Crimson Tide that the concept behind a lightning paced action show with literally a ticking clock wouldn’t even exist.
So the fresh rumour that Tony Scott has an idea for a film based on the now defunct show that he wants to pitch to Kiefer Sutherland and Fox, is interesting.
One of the show’s executive producers, Howard Gordon, has told Assignment X (via Moviehole) that he has heard;
The rumors are that [director] Tony Scott has an idea that he is going to run it by or has run it by Kiefer Sutherland. I don’t know what the status of it is.
Gordon goes on to say that the reason we haven’t seen a 24 film to date is because their current script isn’t “the right proposition. It wasn’t strong enough or compelling enough to the studio obviously to move ahead with it.”
That script was from Billy Ray and his track record of consistently producing strong and compelling work (the under-rated 2007 drama Breach which he wrote & directed, also the recent adaptation of State of Play) makes that statement seem so bizarre, but obviously Gordon is in a better position than me to know such things.
However he does go on to say;
The movie is something that right now I’m not engaged or involved in.
But with his close ties to the show, he’s more likely to know than most and if he says Tony Scott might have an idea, then who are we to doubt?
I really hope this rumour turns out to be true. Kiefer Sutherland deserves the chance to bring 24 to the big screen and Tony Scott could really do something special with the franchise. I just wonder what condensed narrative he has in mind, presumably it’s some kind of large terrorist attack?
Hopefully it involves Scott’s frequent star Denzel Washington playing the villain?

The First Script For The 24 Movie Was Rejected
With Fox having canceled 24 earlier this year, the only bright spot for fans who want more Jack Bauer action in their lives is that the news of the cancellation came with the announcement that they would be making a feature film. It was back in April that the shows star/executive producer Kiefer Sutherland said that the script, written by Billy Ray, was finished, so why has the project not moved forward in the eight months since? The easy answer is that the script sucked.
Assignment X recently interviewed one of the show's executive producers, Howard Gordon, who revealed that the script turned in by Ray has been rejected. Saying that he isn't "engaged or involved" with the project, Gordon said that the rumor is that director Tony Scott has an idea, but that he's unsure of the exact status. As to why the script was rejected, the producer said that, "it wasn’t the right proposition. It wasn’t strong enough or compelling enough to the studio obviously to move ahead with it."

24 Movie in Jeopardy After Fox Passes on Script TV Guide - January 1, 2011 3:34 PM PST
It looks like Jack Bauer's road to the big screen has just hit a major speed bump.
Fox has axed the script from Billy Ray (State of Play) for a big-screen adaptation of 24, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Will 24 end up on the big screen?
"As far as I know, itis in suspended animation,"series executive producer Howard Gordon told the magazine."There is talk about re-approaching it.I understand (director) Tony Scott is meeting with Kiefer [Sutherland] to talk about ideas. People are still talking about it."
The 24 film, announced in March, planned to pick up the story sometime after the Fox drama's series finale. 24 wrapped in May after eight years.
TVGuide.com poll: 62 percent of voters want more 24
Star Kiefer Sutherland expressed his excitement about keeping the franchise alive in the announcement regarding the show's cancelation in March. The film would have taken Jack Bauer to Europe and would revolve more around Bauer than the CTU offices, according to Variety.
Despite the recent setback, Gordon remains optimistic about 24's big-screen ambitions.
"I was disappointed [Fox] passed on the script butI'm certainly hopeful that the movie will get made at some point," Gordon said. "Anecdotally, I've heard from people who arereally missing the show andI do think there is more life in Jack Bauer."
Fox Rejects Script for “24″ Movie, Jack Bauer Still On The Run
Even as attempts to locate Jack Bauer and bring him to the big screen are underway, the news hit today that Fox rejected a script for the big screen movie of “24.” The script presented was written by Billy Ray, and the executive producer Howard Gordon has said that the script was just not “substantial and compelling enough.” So the hunt for a good script continues, while our hero continues to survive in limbo, bereft of his family and air time.
Bauer could not be reached for comment, but Kiefer Sutherland told Entertainment Weekly that it’s not over yet.
“I was disappointed [Fox] passed on the script but I’m certainly hopeful that the movie will get made at some point,” he said. “Anecdotally, I’ve heard from people who are really missing the show and I do think there is more life in Jack Bauer.”
Sightings of Bauer in London and Zimbabwe have fueled speculation that he is meeting with Indie producers in order to find a way to the big screen. Fox needs to do their business or get off the pot, as the saying goes, as Bauer can’t be expected to exist out of the public eye for very long. Fortunately he also lives in a different timeline than we do…for us it’s been months but for him it has only been a few hours.

Kiefer Sutherland Confirms '24' Movie January 20, 2011 | Celebrity Highlights
"Extra's" AJ Calloway talked with actor Kiefer Sutherland, who said the "24" movie is on target to start shooting in 8 months.
"It's a very difficult thing to take something you've done for eight years, almost two hundred episodes, and try to find a story that's going to be unique and yet service the history of the show as well," Sutherland said.
In the meantime, Kiefer is heading to the stage to star in a Broadway revival of the play "That Championship Season," with "The Good Wife" star Chris Noth.
"I grew up in Canada playing hockey, so basketball is a little foreign to me and I don't think I have the height anyway," joked Sutherland. The play is about four friends each going through a mid-life crisis, and was made into a 1982 movie starring Bruce Dern and Martin Sheen.
Sutherland explained, "Four men dealing with a sense they're no longer relevant."

'24' Movie Plot
It's looking good for Jack Bauer. Kiefer Sutherland was spotted enthusiastically discussing the planned "24" movie with director Ron Howard, who produced the hit Fox series, over lunch at Junior's in Times Square this week. A spy told us that Kiefer, who dined on a cheeseburger, was "excited about how much more they could do for '24' with a movie format than they could ever do in the TV series. The lunch lasted a long time, and both stars were friendly with the waiters, many of whom are fans of '24.' " Kiefer's Broadway show, "That Championship Season," opens for previews Wednesday at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater, next door to Junior's.

'24' movie: Kiefer Sutherland announces release date by Lynette Rice Categories: Movie Biz Mar 21 2011 02:11 PM ET
We’re holding our breath, Jack Bauer: Kiefer Sutherland told the women of The View this morning that the much-anticipated release of the 24 movie will be in (drumroll please) … 2012.
Hey, there’s no reason NOT to believe Sutherland (who was on the show to promote his Broadway play That Championship Season). Still, EW hears that the movie has yet to find a director and has no start date. I guess we should stay tuned.
Sutherland told EW earlier this year that he remains committed to a big-screen version of the Fox drama and, in fact, hopes to begin production within a year. Though Fox ultimately nixed a script by Billy Ray (State of Play), the movie remains “the little engine that could.” He acknowledged that 20th Century Fox has been working with director/producer Tony Scott (Man on Fire, The Good Wife) on the project. “Billy did a fantastic job and there are aspects of that story [that will remain],” the actor says. “I couldn’t be more thrilled.”
What do you think, Bauer fans? Will you believe it when you see it?

Will the '24' Movie Ever Happen? By Gary Susman (Subscribe to Gary Susman's posts) Posted Aug 5th 2011 5:30PM
Tick...tick...tick...tick...tick...tick...
'24' went off the air more than a year ago, but the clock keeps ticking on a possible '24' feature film. The movie seemed very close to being made last year when a script was commissioned and action vet Tony Scott was approached to direct, but 20th Century Fox rejected the screenplay, sending the project back to square one.
This week, with such '24' alumni as executive producer Howard Gordon and costar Mary Lynn Rajskub attending the semi-annual Television Critics Association confab in Los Angeles to promote their new fall shows, questions about the future of the '24' movie have arisen again. Both Gordon and Rajskub addressed the questions, and it seems that everyone on Team '24' would like to see a movie get made, but plans are still completely up in the air.
Back in February 2010, before the Fox broadcast network decided to make what was then the current ongoing season of '24' the show's last, sister studio 20th Century Fox hired Billy Ray ('Flightplan,' 'Breach') to write the screenplay. At the time, star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland suggested that the film would be a stand-alone story that would send Jack Bauer to Eastern Europe and would take place (like each season of '24') over the course of one day.
At the end of last year, however, the studio passed on Ray's script. Gordon, however, said Sutherland and Scott were still trying to come up with a new plot idea. In January, Sutherland said that a '24' movie was still going to happen, that Team '24' was "very excited" about the prospect and that he hoped the movie would start shooting by the end of this year. In February, Gordon told AOL TV, "The '24' movie is on hold for now, although conversations are ongoing."
This week at TCA, Gordon was promoting his new terrorism-themed series, Showtime's 'Homeland.' According to The Hollywood Reporter, he said that those conversations are still "definitely happening" to make a '24' feature. "There's an institutional desire to do it. I know Kiefer wants to do it, we all want to do it. It's just about finding the right script and not just doing it to do it."
The series finale in May 2010 ended the show's run on a satisfying note, Gordon said, so if a movie doesn't get made, "I will not be heartbroken." However, he said of Jack Bauer, "I miss the character terribly and I know Kiefer does, too."
If a film does get made, Gordon told the Reporter, it will take place overseas, like Ray's script, but the action will spread out beyond a single day.
Rajskub, who played Jack's most steadfast ally, computer whiz Chloe O'Brian, told TCA reporters, "I've heard nothing. I've seen nothing." According to TV Guide, she joked, "I'm rewriting the script myself."
The actress, who was best known for her comic roles before her long run on '24,' is returning to comedy this fall on the CBS sitcom 'How to Be a Gentleman.' But if Jack Bauer comes calling, she said, "I hope I can have a couple days off from 'How to Be a Gentleman' to be Chloe." And if she can't, she joked, the filmmakers can always hire Rachel Weisz to play Chloe.
Sutherland, too, has a forthcoming TV series, a midseason Fox offering called 'Touch.' So he isn't going to have a lot of free time in the near future to make a '24' flick. But then again, Jack Bauer is used to getting things done very quickly.

Howard Gordon: '24 movie talks are happening' Friday, August 5 2011, 10:34am EDT By Catriona Wightman, TV Reporter
Speculation that a big-screen adaptation of the show could be produced has been rife for years, but intensified when the television series came to an end last year.
Last year, reports suggested that the first movie script had been scrapped and in February Gordon admitted that the project was on hold.
Gordon has now told The Hollywood Reporter that a film is possible, saying that the talks are "definitely happening".
"There's an institutional desire to do it," he said. "I know Kiefer [Sutherland] wants to do it, we all want to do it. It's just about finding the right script and not just doing it to do it."
However, Gordon admitted that he would not be upset if a film project did not work out, saying: "It's something that I think if it doesn't happen, I will not be heartbroken. I'm very proud of that [television] run and how it ended. It was very hard to get it to the finish line with some kind of grace in closure. Why mess it up? But if you find the right story..."
Gordon is currently working on Showtime's new drama Homeland, which will premiere on October 2 in the US. The show will air on Channel 4 in the UK.

October 5, 2011 17:02 Kiefer Sutherland: ''24' movie script nearly ready' Actor says Jack Bauer is almost ready for the big screen
Kiefer Sutherland has said the script for the long-awaited 24 film is almost ready.
The actor, who played the show's hero Jack Bauer for eight series, suggested that once the script is sorted, shooting the film wouldn't be a problem.
"We are coming very close to having a finished script. That's been the most difficult thing," he told The Daily Telegraph.
He added:
You have to remember that we have 24 hours to explain the stories in 24 and so trying to condense that into a two-hour film version has been a real shift in gear for us.
Sutherland, who can currently be seen alongside Kirsten Dunst in Lars von Trier's apocalyptic Melancholia, also said: "We were originally trying to make it too big and put too much into it.
"Once we relaxed, we found out how to tell that story. So, yes, we definitely do plan on making the film."
In an interview at Bafta in 2010, Sutherland stated the 24 movie would be a two-hour representation of a 24-hour period.
A big-screen version of the hit Fox series has been talked about for years. Producers had aimed to fill the two-year break between series six and seven with a feature film, but instead opted for the TV-only special 24: Redemption, which co-starred Robert Carlyle as an old friend of Jack's working in Africa.
24 bowed out after eight series in May 2010.

Kiefer Sutherland Gives the Scoop On '24' The Movie. Posted 10/5/11 9:49 am ET by MTV Tr3s in Hot Stuff, Movies & CineMás, Television
By Larry Yepez Jr.
It's been a while since we've heard anything about the new adaptation of 24 for the big screen. Thankfully, Kiefer Sutherland spilled the beans while promoting the film Melancholia (directed by Lars von Trier), and said that the 24 film is still on the way and the script is almost completed.
The 24 film project has been in development since the end of the eighth and final season of the FOX series last year. Sutherland told The Daily Telegraph,
"We are coming very close to having a finished script. That's been the most difficult thing. You have to remember that we have 24 hours to explain the stories in 24 and so trying to condense that into a two-hour film version has been a real shift in gear for us. We were originally trying to make it too big and put too much into it -but once we relaxed, we found out how to tell that story. So yes we definitely do plan on making the film."
About the success of the TV show, Sutherland added:
"It is seen all over the globe and to be able to be a part of a project that transcended languages and cultures over a long sustained period of time has been great. It was the largest audience I have ever had and it was an absolute thrill to work on that show. But it also changed things for me. It did so much for my confidence. For those reasons alone I will be forever in debt to the experience I've had with 24."
Producer Howard Gordon confirmed in August that talks about the 24 movie are ongoing.
Sutherland had previously suggested that filming could begin in December and added that the film may eventually be released in 2012
What do you think of 24 the movie? Are you excited to see it?

'24' fans rejoice! Kiefer Sutherland confirms a follow up film will begin shooting in April
It has been a long wait, but fans of hit TV series 24 will be pleased to learn that filming for the movie sequel to the show will begin in a few short months.
Kiefer Sutherland, 45, told press on Saturday: 'Hopefully we will be shooting the end of April, beginning of May.'
And the actor, who plays Jack Bauer in the 24 saga, also said that the movie will be a 'continuation' of the show's eight seasons.
He added: 'Then, we'll see where we go from there.'
After a long process to find a suitable script for the film, the team has finally settled on something they are happy with.
Sutherland said: 'We have a script that we're really, really excited about finally and it's a question of trying to get it put together that quickly now.'

Don't know if this is true or not. But I will post it anyway.
Fox pulls plug on '24' movie; Kiefer Sutherland furious Sharon Waxman Reuters 5:07 p.m. CDT, March 14, 2012
LOS ANGELES, March 14 (TheWrap.com) - Kiefer Sutherland is furious at 20th Century Fox, which has called a halt to the movie version of his hit television show, "24," over budget and star salary issues, TheWrap has learned.
The movie based on the conspiracy-terrorism-action show was in pre-production and set to start shooting next month, but has now ground to a halt because Fox will greenlight a budget no higher than $30 million, while Sutherland and producer Brian Grazer feel the budget needs to be in the low $40s at its tightest.
A Fox spokesman confirmed that the movie was on hold, and said it was related to timing.
"We're still working on a script, and hope to make when Kiefer next has time," said the spokesman. "But this all came down to timing, and seven weeks is not enough time to prep a movie like this."
But insiders on the project refuted that version of the situation. According to them, the Fox television star feels insulted that Fox has offered him a relatively measly salary of $1 million to do the movie.
Sutherland, who has helped Fox make hundreds of millions of dollars off the hit show and is represented by CAA, wanted $5 million. (He is also the producer.)
Talks between the two sides continued up until the last 24 hours, with Fox co-chairman Tom Rothman getting involved, according to individuals with knowledge of the situation. One of those told TheWrap that the sides would be meeting at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to try to work out their differences.
Sutherland's agency CAA had no immediate comment, nor did his management.
The "24" budgeting problem may cause potential problems with the Fox Television Network, which needs Sutherland for its new television series, "Touch." That show debuts March 22, and Sutherland recently returned from traveling abroad to promote it.
"24" was meant to go into production in April, when "Touch" went on hiatus, according to a television studio spokesman.
Now all of that has been thrown into question, and all of the talent attached is apparently furious.
Overall, Sutherland's impression was that "the studio didn't seem to be paying attention or be consistent with notes and thoughts," said one person in his camp. In other words, the guy feels dissed.
Times are tough in this business, but why Fox would nickel-and-dime a star like Sutherland, whose show has an international as well as a strong domestic audience is a mystery. Yes, Sutherland has gotten inordinately wealthy off the series and, yes, star fees have come down in recent years -- but still.
Individuals involved with the movie pointed out that Fox has gone through similar troubles in the past and its reputation has been hurt as a result.
Said one of those individuals: "At the end of day it's not only hard to make movies at Fox specifically, but it's also no fun."

24 Movie and Kiefer Sutherland - Movie to Shoot in Summer 2013 By Staff Jul 27, 2012
When will the 24 movie begin shooting?
Kiefer Sutherland has confirmed the big screen adaptation of '24' will start shooting next summer.
The 45-year-old actor - who plays government agent Jack Bauer in the TV series - is expecting to start filming the movie when he wraps on the second season of TV drama 'Touch' next year, and he revealed ''timing'' constraints have led to delays in making the film so far.
He said: ''We didn't have a script ready for that until very close to the end of 'Touch.' We knew we were coming back so there was a very finite window for me to make the film, to try to prep it, cast it and all of those other things. It was just unrealistic for Fox to try and make it, so they pushed it for next break.''
While the series finale of '24' came to a conclusion in May 2010, Kiefer is not worried about waiting too long for the movie to be released and is confident the motion picture will be ''great'' when it finally materializes.
He added to CraveOnline: ''I think we can make a great film. I mean, I don't want to do it with a cane, but we'll see. We'll see what happens.''
The '24' motion picture was originally due to have started filming by now, and in January Kiefer still expected to start shooting the movie this summer, but the big screen adaptation was delayed again.

It looks like that "24" movie fans have been waiting for is DOA.
Antoine Fuqua, of "Training Day" fame, was supposed to direct the flick but told Indiewire, "I don't think it's gonna happen at all, definitely not with me. I met with Kiefer (Sutherland). Fox wanted to do it. It was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show ('Touch')."

Rumors that there was a "24" movie in the making have been swirling around ever since the eight-season hit came to an end in 2010. Sutherland even said the movie could be shot while he was on a break from "Touch." But based on Fuqua's comments, such aspirations are a thing of the past.
