You cannot mention ’24’ without thinking about Kiefer Sutherland and not without good reason! The actor portrayed the iconic Jack Bauer in all 8 seasons, the one off event season and even the TV movie! However, along with the news that Fox have decided to reboot the series with ’24: Legacy’ comes the news that it will not be featuring Mr Bauer which means no Kiefer Sutherland either!
The new take on the ground-breaking format – which was the first to present real time episodes – will feature an all new protagonist who has yet to be cast. Fox CEO Dana Walden recently confirmed that viewers can expect a nod to well known characters and previous events, but that the actual cast will be all new characters on a story arc that is all their own.
So, given how long Kiefer Sutherland made the role of Jack Bauer his own, what does he think of the idea of a season of ’24’ that is not centred on the character? Well, actually he is pretty cool with it! In a recent Q & A panel Sutherland weighed in on the debate and stated that, ‘I have said from the beginning that the real star of ’24’ is the idea, and I mean that wholeheartedly.
For those who are hoping for a glimpse of Jack Bauer at some point in the reboot, there is disappointment in store because there are absolutely no plans for that to happen! One thing is for sure, whoever does get cast as the new leads has some very big shoes to fill!
