Kiefer Sutherland in SaskatchewanHollywood actor Kiefer Sutherland showed up in Saskatchewan -- Weyburn, to be specific -- for the unveiling of a statue honouring his grandfather, the late Tommy Douglas.
"That sculpture is such an unbelievable work of art," Sutherland said.
On Friday, hundreds of others also showed up to pay tribute to former Saskatchewan Premier, a man considered to be "The Greatest Canadian" and "The Father of Medicare."
The statue, which took 2 years to complete, was done by Ms. Lea Vivot. Sutherland said he's waited a long time to see his grandfather again and now he has.
"My grandfather died when I was 18 years old and it wasn't until I stood next to that and felt the proximity of the size and the likeness, how much I missed him and I got sad about that.
Federal NDP leader Jack Layton and provincial party leader Dwain Lingenfelter were also in attendance to celebrate the legacy of their party.
