Here is the frist atricle of Dancing With the Stars

Why Bristol Palin Is Still on 'Dancing With the Stars'
By Marisa Guthrie, Hollywood Reporter via Reuters | Monday, November 15, 2010

(HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) — Is "Dancing With the Stars" a dance contest or a popularity contest? A little of both, it seems.

Bristol Palin, the daughter of former Alaska governor and media sensation Sarah Palin, has survived on the ABC competition show despite some of the lowest marks from the judges.

The abstinence advocate — who was seen in a Tea Party t-shirt during one rehearsal — didn't improve with last week's dismal "insta samba." But it was erstwhile NFL quarterback Kurt Warner who got the boot.

Contestants advance to the next round based on the judges scores as well as viewer votes. And Bristol's supporters have used social media to get out that vote.

Conservative radio host Tammy Bruce has led a Twitter campaign to get fans to vote for "Team Ballin" as Bristol and her partner Mark Ballas are known. On Monday, Bruce tweeted: "Operation Bristol waltzes in tonight! As #DWTS starts vote at abc.go.com Tweeps pls tweet phone info, will RT."

Bruce only has a little over 14,000 followers, but the ripple effect on Twitter is well-established. There are also multiple Bristol fan sites including bristolpalin.org and her own Facebook page that urges users to "vote for Bristol the pistol."

While competitor Brandy Norwood has a whopping 798,003 followers on Twitter, her website, foreverbrandy.com, only lists her recent music releases — but doesn't have one mention of her appearance on "Dancing With the Stars." BristolPalin.org, contains at least one post a week about her progress on the show. And Ballas has 53,446 followers on Twitter, and a blog that's updated nearly every day. Jennifer Grey has just 9,708 followers on Twitter.

And "Dancing With the Stars" indexes in TV's top-ten among Republicans, according to data from Experian Simmons that appears in the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter. It comes in at No. 9 on the list top shows among Republicans. And while "Dancing" indexes high with Democrats as well, it still does not crack the top 15 favorite shows among Democratic viewers.

"Dancing With the Stars" executive producer Conrad Green told Bloomberg that Sarah Palin's popularity could certainly be helping to fuel her daughter's success.

"There's a strong popular movement behind Sarah Palin at the moment," said Green. "It's entirely possible some of those people are behind Bristol for political reasons."

Bristol also has strong support from her mother, a social networking enigma. Sarah Tweeted to her 296,295 followers on Nov. 8, competition night: "Bristol's life lesson she reminded us before DWTS," They're going to criticize anyway, so I might as well DANCE!" Smile now that is a take away!" As SarahPAC staffer Rebecca Mansour told the Daily Beast: "She can tweet something and it can cause a news story. That's an unusual situation to be in, therefore it's a unique perspective in controlling the message because of that."

But it's not just politics keeping Bristol dancing.

Of the approximately 20 million viewers who tune in every week, 15 million are female — and they may be less likely to vote for sports stars like Rick Fox or Warner. Indeed, Fox joked on 710 ESPN Wednesday night that they "split the sports vote."

The sex of the four remaining contestants (Palin, Grey, Brandy, and Kyle Massey) underscores the show's popularity with women.

Bristol's age could also a factor. "Dancing With the Stars" is the No. 2 broadcast with kids age 2 to 11 (behind only Fox's "The Simpsons"), and pre-teens may be more likely to vote for a teenager.

(Although Massey is also 19-years-old, he doesn't fall into the female demo — plus the show is No. 7 with adults 25 to 54. Not many adults and baby boomers watch the Disney Channel.)

Let's also examine the rumored love connection between Palin and her dance partner Mark Ballas. Bristol has always played coy. When Ellen DeGeneres asked her if Ballas was telling the truth about their non-existent relationship, Bristol smiled and said, "About what?" Nothing like rumors of off-set action to spark attention; just ask Kate Gosselin, who boosted the show's ratings above "American Idol's" for the first time ever. Viewers tuned in to see her off-the-dance-floor antics with partner Tony Dovolani.

Opines Season 9 third-place finisher Kelly Osbourne: "As for the winner, I really feel like Bristol Palin is going to give everyone a run for his or her money. ... I have to say this: You have to separate the person from the family. She's out there and she's trying."

Bristol Palin and ‘The Situation’ team up in new PSA
By Rachel Rose Hartman

In one of the more awkward youth-culture pitches for chastity since Christine O'Donnell's days on MTV, Bristol Palin has teamed with former "Dancing With the Stars" partner Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino in a public service announcement for an anti-teen-pregnancy group called the Candie's Foundation.

The commercial shows notorious womanizer Sorrentino--best known for appearing on MTV's louche reality franchise "Jersey Shore"--mistakenly bumping into Palin backstage at "Dancing With the Stars." Wasting little time, Sorrentino tries to put the moves on his fellow contestant. "Excuse me, miss, have you ever had a situation with the official 'Situation'?" he asks.

Palin, a 20-year-old mother, quickly rebuffs Sorrentino's buff advances, and the two segue instead into a discussion of sex and abstinence--while also stressing the importance of safe sex. The dialogue is interspersed with cheesy one-liners and strained banter, but by the time the spot ends, Palin and Sorrentino both repeat the organization's slogan, "pause before you play."

Palin became an ambassador for Candie's after her teenage pregnancy in the public eye.

She's drawn past criticism for advocating abstinence even though her teenage sexual activity led to pregnancy. Though she touts abstinence, Palin has also said that abstinence-only education is not "realistic."

Palin's current ad for Candie's stands in stark contrast to her last PSA for the group, which had a disturbing, serious tone. That commercial raised some controversy for its message: Pregnant teens who--unlike Bristol Palin--lack families with money or cultural celebrity face a more difficult road. Some argued that Palin was essentially saying it's OK for teens of privilege to accidentally get pregnant.

Palin has also been an antiabortion activist. She appeared with her mother and each of their infant sons on the cover of In Touch entertainment magazine in January with the headline "'We're glad we chose life.'"
